Microcement is a system of products that creates a seamless decorative coating on floors, walls, showers, countertops, vent hoods, furniture, fireplace surrounds and more. It is hand-applied with a trowel and is a versatile and durable material that can be applied in various colors and textures. The components of CimentArt microcement system are the following:

• Primer: this guarantees the adherence of the microcement on the surface where the product is being used.
• Fiberglass mesh: this ensures a good assemble of all the microcement and helps to prevent the cracking of the product. On surfaces with poor absorption such as paint, stoneware floors, and tile walls the fiberglass mesh makes the application of the first layer of Cimentart microcement base easier.
• Microcement base (Koncrete/Aqua): this is used for the regulation of the surfaces and the covering of the joints on floors and tiles; it’s a preparation for the application of the thin microcement.
• Aqua Microconcrete: this helps to obtain a completely smooth finishing and with its application the decorative marbling effects characteristic of the microcement are achieved.
• Sealer: with our sealer, the complete closure of the microcement pores is achieved, allowing the definitive color of the microcement to stand out and help the application of the last product the protective varnish (Bi-component Polyurethane).
• Bi-component Polyurethane: this is the final product making it possible to use any regular home cleaning products over the surface and with this last product. A final finishing chosen by the client is achieved. Clients have the option of satin, matte or glossy.

Yes, our chosen brand of microcement, Cimentart, is 100% waterproof prior to any sealers being applied, making it a perfect choice for wet areas such as bathrooms, kitchens, and even steam showers. Traditional microcements, which are cementitious and polymer-based, rely on a polyurethane sealer to keep them waterproof. These sealers can deteriorate over a short period of time, allowing water to enter the surface and resulting in water damage, delamination and the growth of mold.

The time required depends on the size of the area and the complexity of the project, but typically, the application process takes between 4 and 6 days.

Microcement is applied in thin layers, typically between 1 to 3 mm (about 0.12 in), which makes it an excellent option for renovation projects, as it doesn’t significantly increase the thickness of the surface.

Microcement will never crack on its own and will only follow the substrate below. It is essential to correctly prepare areas receiving microcement to ensure the longevity of the surface. Certified installers will take all possible steps to minimize the chance of cracking, such as recommending a solid and suitable substrate and installing the proper fiberglass mesh.
